THE ORIGIN STORY
How we came to be?
The inspiration for the name comes from the movie “August Rush” (2007), a musical drama that tells the story of an orphaned boy who uses his remarkable musical talent to find the parents from whom he was separated at birth. His fearless confidence made music come alive in his life.
This movie greatly inspired, Blessina, our founder, when she was learning to play the Piano. It forever changed her perspective and love for music and the instrument. In some ways the movie planted a seed in her that gave her a deep drive to pursue her passion for the piano and that has now led to the birth of the August School of Music, a place which is designed to inspire every student just as she was once inspired.
We at August School of Music aim to instill the confidence in our students to explore the piano because “the piano ain’t got no wrong notes” and eventually build a lifelong bond with music.
THE PIANO
About the Instrument
The Piano was invented by Bartolomeo Cristofori circa 1700 in Italy. A standard piano has 88 keys (52 white keys and 36 black keys).
It is an acoustic musical instrument which is classified in both the string and the percussion category. Percussion instruments are those that have one material hitting another to create music and Stringed instruments are those that have strings which create sound through plucking, bowing or striking. The sound that comes from the piano is when the hammers strike metal strings. Isn’t that cool! The Piano is also called a Pianoforte because it can play both loud and soft noises.
